The Expert In Crony Capitalism Just Might Be Sarah Palin
In our Dare To Dream post on September 9th, 2011, A Progressive Begs: Please Sarah, Run Baby, Run we mentioned the half term Governor’s use of the words “Crony Capitalism” and how Palin was beating this theme which “could be her dead horse.”
We also mentioned that it seems ironic she would use this as a campaign issue when she herself “hired” many of her Wasilla friends, neighbors and classmates when serving as the half term Governor of Alaska.
In Dare To Dream’s research on this subject, we found a related article in the September 14th, 2009 issue of the New York Times, which had the following lead on the story:
WASILLA, Alaska — Gov. Sarah Palin lives by the maxim that all politics is local, not to mention personal.
So when there was a vacancy at the top of the State Division of Agriculture, she appointed a high school classmate, Franci Havemeister, to the $95,000-a-year directorship. A former real estate agent, Ms. Havemeister cited her childhood love of cows as a qualification for running the roughly $2 million agency.
Ms. Havemeister was one of at least five schoolmates Ms. Palin hired, often at salaries far exceeding their private sector wages.
It would appear that the former defeated GOP Vice-Presidential candidate is quite familiar with “crony capitalism” and how it operates.
