A Cracker Jack Milestone

05/03/2008

I would have been re-missed if I had let the passing of a 100 year milestone of a “National” institution go unnoticed.

This last week marked the 100th year anniversary of the writing of “Take Me Out To The Ball Game” by vaudeville song writer and composer Jack Northworth in 1908. Northworth words were then set to the music of Albert Von Tilzer. Northworth also wrote “Shine On Harvest Moon”.

It is interesting that neither Northwood or Tilzer had every seen a ball game up to then, in fact Northworth saw his first game in 1947
