Tearing Down the Old Schools

03/10/2008

I understand that there’s an auction at the “old” Laird Avenue School today and then one at Garfield tomorrow.

I must admit that in most cases, I really don’t have any feelings for keeping any of the former elementary and middle schools BUT I have some thoughts about two of them.

Turner is centrally located and seems to still be a building that warrants the possible study of further use, be it City or private sector.

The other school that really needs to be saved is Garfield. This beautiful structure is also well located, sound and sturdy of construction and must have many uses for either the City or again the private sector.

What profits us to lose our past by tearing it down in trying to build a future. I say there is room for our past in our future.
