Equal Justice?

gerald_g_balance_scale.jpgWe hear a lot about “torte reform”, especially during an election year, but I have an issue that seems even more relevant…how about representation that is affordable for all who seek to have a lawyer.

In criminal cases the court tells those who appear in front of them, “you have a right to an attorney and if you can’t afford an attorney one will be provided to you” but not so in civil cases.

So when it comes to representation on civil matters, the scales of justice are not balanced equally.  You “play” if only you can “pay”.
