Do It

I’ve never been a firm believer in the old adage that “those who can’t…teach”, especially since both my parents were teachers in their later years of life, but lately I’m getting the idea that there might be some truth in the adage.

In conversation with several Downtown Business and Property Owners, it seems that several of the “shakers and movers” in Warren GROWS have been heard to voice their opinions, along with free advice, on what “businesses need/must do to succeed” on the Square and elsewhere in the City.

Now most of these comments are coming from none business types who own no business yet they seem to have a world of knowledge on “what is needed” and “how it should be done”.

I offer them a challenge: With the many empty store fronts, and with the “apparent” expertise they expound, I simply say INVEST your money, and energy, in your “need to do” philosophy and open a business. Show the rest of us business people how it is done.

It is time that these “movers and shakers” simply take their words and Do It. If they won’t, because in many cases they do have the money, name and pull to make it happen, then listen to those who are on the “front lines” with INVESTED interests and what those business people have to say about the survival of their lively hood, for they are the ones who know what their business needs are and how to best run them.

This is an issue that I haven’t given much thought about, but leading by example makes sense to me.

I’m sure that they don’t want to try because they might fail and it’s safer to give advice from the sidelines of a committee or organization, still looking important, than to get into the action.
