Term Limits for Council and Mayor?

Here’s an idea: Term limits for Warren City Council and Mayor!

Now I know that this idea is full of a “tempest in a tea pot” but maybe it’s not that far fetched.

By limiting the number of terms we might be able to encourage bright, young and “progressive” people to enter local politics.

This upcoming primary is a good example of our local politics. Only one contest, Warren City 4th Ward, Robert Holmes III and Marti Morn, and everyone else has no one to oppose them in the primary or the general election.

I have seen a petition for Dan Crouse running for Warren City at Large as an Independent which could liven up the general election but that doesn’t really seem likely.

Term limits might remove the intimidation factor of “good ole boy” and family politics that dominate the local scene.

Term limits might add to the accountability factor and encourage those elected to follow-up and follow through with their platforms and ideas.

Term limits, the only thing that could be negative is that we wind up with expired terms and no-one running to fill the office. Even that seems better than what we presently have and maybe we can start talking about a City Manager form of Government.

Term limits would shake things up a bit. Could mean a worthwhile politician (oxymoron?) has to leave office early, but that’s the breaks. S/he can stay out a term and then try to jump in again.

I agree! Term limits seems like a step in the right direction but none on this council has the backbone to put themselves out of a job and a part time job to boot.

Now we have a new member of council in the fourth ward, will anything really change??? Doubt it!
